Visit to North Downs Guild by Wingham Wool Works

September 2010

We always look forward to seeing Ruth and Alan Gough with their amazing quantity of stock to tempt us. This time they wanted to be “open” for the whole weekend which put quite a lot of pressure on the members who were responsible for stewarding, making coffee and, of course, unpacking and packing after the event.  Many thanks to Pam and Tony Chatfield who provided hospitality for Ruth and Alan for the two nights and of course to all those who helped during the days and donated biscuits, milk, sugar, coffee, tea etc. We had 116 visitors over the two days.

The Committee decided to invest in some new equipment for the Guild and in the end purchased a Wild Drum Carder and a Hackle. We were given some white merino tops which we will be selling in 100gm bags for you to dye, spin or felt..

The equipment is currently being stored with Pam but Jean Ackermann has already borrowed the Carder and in November Pam showed us some carding she had done which was most exciting. Let’s hope we all make good use of these new Guild items which should provide us with lots of fascinating fibres to spin.
